The rake for participation in poker tournaments is collected as an entrance fee. This may be displayed by showing the tournament buy-in asR$100+$20, with theR$20 being the house fee or "Vig". Other times they will show their buy-in asR$100 and list the percentage they take for expenses.

When playing online poker cash games, approximately 5% of each pot is retained for the provider. In most cases, the rake is capped at $3 toR$5 and is only taken if there is a flop. This doesn't sound like very much, but it amounts to a substantial amount over a longer period of time.
