Jugar is primarily translated as "to play." It has many uses including "to perform," "to risk something," and "to play in someone's favor," among others. There are many ways to conjugate this verb. One conjugation example is the present tense which is used to describe current action (not continuous).

Jugar means to play. However, the word juego  means both play  (as in yo juego/ I play ), and game . Let me give you two example sentences so you can grasp the difference. Yo juego al bisbol means I play baseball.
