Frankenstein is a fictional character, the titular protagonist of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus." The character is a scientist who creates a humanoid creature from body parts of the dead and brings it to life through the use of electricity.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley was inspired by a nightmare that the author had in the early 1800s. Some experts believe the book also alludes to scientific exploration that was actually happening around that time.
